

About the Artist:
Karine Fleurima is a Haitian-American multi-disciplinary Afrofuturistic Performer, Writer, Composer & Meditation Facilitator that investigates themes of cultural displacement and social ambiguity while creating an immersive meditative multimedia environment. Her past performance art pieces include a one-womxn show "Ain't No Respect" in Brooklyn & "Release from Within" performed at The Aurora Festival in Dallas. Recently, she has shifted to integrate her spiritual and creative practices. Her recent online offerings include live Ancestral Sound Healing sessions that incorporate African beats & guided meditations that are interlaced with quotes from influential Black leaders. These sound healing meditations have been led during virtual events for organizations such as InsightLA, AWOC Space & Black Quantum Futurism. As a facilitator, she has led meditations that center the BIPOC/LGBTQ+ community to assist with healing from intergenerational trauma. Her most recent teaching artist position in the Summer of 2020 with Dallas Theater Center allowed her to teach Playwriting to adolescents & teens. She has recently launched her online workshop, The Artist’s Way REMIXED, which is a re-imagining of Julia Cameron’s creative recovery program and centers the experiences of the BIPOC community. In 2021, she was accepted into the Cal State LA Teacher Artist Training program which begins this Spring. She is passionate about creating virtual and in-person healing spaces for diverse communities.
